lyrics

I travelled to Galway a town in Ireland to follow my gypsy dreams
And I sang my songs, one after the other, was like in a gambling stream
But sudden I heard those tunes behind me, Sudden a glancing voice
I turned around and saw that young man with eyes green like the hills

I’ll give the stone to the Galway River
He’ll pick up from the sea
I’ll give the stone to the Galway River
He’ll pick up from the sea

Well Galway was known as a home of buskers and so were I and he
But of all them singers his voice was the clearest, his smile was turned at me
So I gave him my hand and walked beside him, with us where our guitars
And he gave me a kiss, one after the other, and took a piece of my heart

I’ll give the stone to the Galway River
He’ll pick up from the sea
I’ll give the stone to the Galway River
He’ll pick up from the sea

Oh there I was wrapped up in his arms, in sight if the endless sea
In the moonlight he picked up a stone from the many, the stone he gave to me
The night became colder, the wind blew harder, time was near to go
So he followed me back to the hostel I stayed, I would see him tomorrow

I’ll give the stone to the Galway River
He picked up from the sea
I’ll give the stone to the Galway River
He picked up from the sea

The next day was rising, I travelled townwards with guitar and flutes on my back
And there he stood, the same as before and I as well started to sing
But sudden as I turned towards him, there was no one more to see
And where he has gone I never will know, that young man with eyes of green

I gave the stone to the Galway River
He picked up from the sea
I gave the stone to the Galway River
He picked up from the sea

Oh, I gave the stone to the Galway River
He picked up from the sea
I gave the stone to the Galway River
The River that flows to the sea
